Our second hotel in Santorini was luxurious 5-star Volcano View Hotel. Located just outside of Fira it boasts magnificent views of the Volcano and Fira itself. We booked this hotel purely because it had a fantastic pool and brilliant restaurant reviews.

The Volcano View is a luxurious 5 star hotel with tastefully decorated rooms. The hotel has 3 swimming pools which is always a good thing with young kids. The caldera restaurant is known for its authentic Greek cuisine and fantastic breakfasts. We loved our breakfasts here, the view was amazing and the variety of food was fantastic.

First Impressions

Driving up to The volcano Views we were instantly impressed with the panoramic views and location of the Hotel. Although it’s not located in Fira you are located higher up so you get some incredible views of Fira and the Caldera. If you take a walk up and down the road outside the hotel there are some great locations for pictures, especially at sunset.

Our room

We stayed in a simple Double room. The room was tastefully decorated and our bed was very comfortable. The hotel provided us with a cot for our son which saved us bringing one with us. We had a lovely little balcony looking out to the pool and sea which was great for having a drink on in the evening. These rooms are a little walk from the breakfast area so be aware if you book one with kids.

Hospitality

When we arrived the staff at Volcano View were extremely welcoming and very helpful. They had met all our wishes with regards to a room suitable for a baby and provided a cot bed for us.

The staff also helped us get a rental car and told us all the best places to see and even mapped it out for us. We had an idea what we wanted to see, but this made everything a lot easier getting the local knowledge. All of the employees we encountered were extremely nice and helpful.

Volcano view is located just outside of Fira, around a 5 minute drive or 30 minute walk. The views from the hotel are simply breath-taking, looking out over the volcano and Fira. Volcano View has a shuttle bus into Fira, when you arrive its worth getting a timetable. As mentioned above we hired a car from reception when we stayed here and would recommend doing the same so you can see the many beautiful spots on Santorini. Ask reception for a map and the best route.

Directly opposite the hotel there is a little market across the street which perfect for buying drinks and snacks.

The Food and where to eat

The restaurant offers stunning views of Caldera, a lovely place to watch the sun go down. The menu has a good selection of food, and it’s not to pricey, the portions are pretty big too so that my my husband happy. The service was excellent and is a must place to go for gorgeous traditional Greek cuisine and of course spectacular sunsets.

If you want to try something different, walk out of the hotel and turn right, carry on walking up the hill and you will be at Senor Zorba Mexican. The portions here were huge and the food was really good. We managed to get a window seat and watch the sunset over the Caldera, Fira and Oia in the distance. It’s worth going up here just for the views and get a drink.

The Pool

The pool was a little cool for my liking, but this was due to us going in October. Although the weather was perfect, the pool was a little chilly.

Tinkers Travel Tips

  • Travel in October, rooms are cheaper, less crowds and it’s the perfect temperature.

  • Be sure to get a room with the volcano and pool view

  • Closer to the pool the better with kids as there are lots of steep stairs

  • Email ahead for a cot, saves you bringing one.

  • Bring a lightweight pram, there are a lot of steps in Santorini

  • Hire a car and get the shuttle bus timetable. The excellent staff will no doubt help you out!
