the george hotel mykonos reviews

On my first trip to London back in February 2020, I remember walking past The Marriott County Hall and saying to my husband “now that’s my kind of hotel, next time we visit London I want to stay here” and that’s exactly what we did.

The Marriott County Hall is impressive when you walk past the entrance, I remember talking a few steps backward to have a nosy through the archway to see the miniature Big Ben statue outside the front entrance.

About The Marriot County Hall

The 5 star Marriott County Park is located in South Bank, Westminster, Steeped in history as the hotel used to be the City Hall. We wandered around the hotel and you can sense the nostalgic British spirit as you walk the long hallways. The hotel faces out towards the iconic Big Ben, houses of parliament, and The London Eye

All bedrooms are tastefully decorated to a modern luxurious standard with immaculate marble bathrooms with complimentary WiFi.

The hotel has a state of the art gymnasium and pool. Unfortunately whilst we were there the pool was closed so we didn’t get to see it however we were offered a complimentary late checkout for the inconvenience.

The Award-winning high tea is outstanding at The Marriott County Park, with views out to the Thames what’s not to love.

If you’re a gin lover then this is the hotel for you, with over 100 on offer you will be spoilt for choice at Gillray’s house and bar.

First Impressions

We were so excited to be staying at the Marriott County Hall, having not been able to travel much this year it was lovely to be able to stay in such a beautiful hotel and see London properly. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a lovely man at the door who helped us with our bags.

We were presented with some sparkling wine on arrival at check-in and shown the lift to our room where there were hand sanitizers to use before pressing the button for the lift. One thing that stood out to me on our way to the lift was the amazing artwork throughout the hotel, it was brilliant.

The Decor is modern yet still classic, the dark wood is complemented by the modern artwork around the hotel.

Location

The Marriott County Parks location is absolutely perfect for seeing the sights of London, located in Westminster just outside the London Eye. We arrived from London Euston and jumped on the underground direct to Waterloo station which took around 15 minutes. From there it’s a 5-minute walk to The Marriott County Park.

Marriott County park really is the perfect location for seeing London on foot or by underground with Waterloo station being so close by.

VIP Kids Package

Our kids travel with us everywhere so it’s important that they enjoy the experience as much as us. We loved the little “VIP Kids” package that the Marriott County Park had on offer.

Each child gets their own bathrobe, slippers, kids mini toiletries & a county hall teddy bear. My little one ran straight over to the bed hugging his bear! It really made his day.

The package also includes daily breakfast for the family as well as complimentary WiFi.

My boys loved having a bath and getting into their PJs and robes to snuggle up with their bears and watch tv. It was a lovely way to spend the evening after a day out sightseeing.

Our Room

Well, what can I say about our room other than wow! As soon as we walked in I was blown away by the family suit!

The Marriott County Hall is shaped kind of like a U shape so the room was an unusual shape but absolutely fantastic! The decor was modern and stylish with pops of orange in the furniture. We had views out to Big Ben & the Houses of Parliament, I just wish the scaffolding wasn’t on Big Ben.

We loved that the room had disinfectant wipes on the side for us to wipe things down like tv controls etc even though all this would have already been done by Marriott it was a lovely gesture in these strange times.

We had two huge king-sized beds which had the most luxurious bedding, the boys fell asleep in a matter of minutes. The sofa also folded out to a sofa bed but the 2 king-sized beds were big enough for the four of us.

My favorite thing about the room was the wallpaper which was a map of London! Think I’ll be getting some for my bathroom! Talking of bathrooms ours was lovely with a shower and full bath which is something I need with having joint problems!

After a day out exploring it was lovely to have a soak in a hot bath with the beautiful Malton Brown lavender products to help me relax even more.

We also had a little area to put the pram and suitcases so they weren’t in our way as well as a tea and coffee making area. The room was warm and cozy, absolutely perfect for a family wanting to see the city and relax in style in the evening.

Breakfast

The Very Important Kids package includes Breakfast which is served in the restaurant which is open 7 am-10 am for breakfast. A grab and go breakfast is also available upon request.

There are hand sanitizer stations at the doorway to the restaurant. We booked our time slot at reception and made our way down in the morning. There was plenty to choose from on the menu so we chose the “One-Pan English breakfast” where the boys had pancakes and a sausage butty.

My 2-year-old is a typical English boy who loves his morning cuppa so had his own little pot of “hot tea”.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts with the view out to the River Thames. We didn’t have to wait long and all the staff wore masks. We felt completely safe whilst dining in the restaurant and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

Leisure Facilities

To use the swimming pool you need to book a time slot when you arrive. We decided on a morning swim but when we arrived at the pool, unfortunately, it was closed, the staff were so lovely and offered us a late check out in case the pool was able to open before we left. Sadly, it wasn’t but it was nice to be able to use the room until we left in the evening.

Hospitality and Safety

It’s a strange time to travel but we have to say we felt completely safe at the Marriott County Hall. From the second we stepped into the hotel staff had PPE and touchless hand sanitizer stations were there for us to use.

The hotel is cleaned and sanitized every two hours to maintain a safe environment with social distancing being encouraged by limiting occupancy in the hotel. All menus and magazines have been removed from rooms and replaced with QR readers so you can use your phone to see menus etc.

We felt completely safe whilst staying at the hotel, it was clear to us that Marriott had exceptionally high standards when it came to keeping the hotel safe.

The staff was all so friendly and helpful, we were met a few times at the door and offered help with getting the pram inside.

Things to do Nearby

We found the Marriott County Hall to be the perfect location to see London. With such great sightseeing as:

London Eye: With being right outside I’ll start with that! The 350-degree views from the top are spectacular on a clear day, it takes around 30 minutes to do a full round and costs £24.50 of booked online.

Westminster Abby: We loved our tour around Westminster Abbey, the kids even get their own tour books to help them spot things around the Abbey.

Big Ben and Houses of Parliament: We didn’t do this but you can book tickets for a tour of this historical building discovering over 1000 years of history.

Also nearby you have:

  • Shrek
  • Sea Life Center
  • Boat Tours
  • Peppa Big Bus Tour (prebook)
  • Lots of places to eat

Overall Experience

We had the best time staying at the Marriott County Hall. The room was spotless and comfortable, breakfast was delicious and the location couldn’t have been more central for us.

All in all, it really is a great place to stay for a family wanting to see the sights of London with convenient transportation nearby.

We would most definitely stay in the Marriott County Hall again, we couldn’t fault it and it was lovely to feel like we were on a little holiday in our own county.

Thanks, Marriott for helping us make some special memories this year.
