the george hotel mykonos reviews

Having only been to London for the first time in my life last year (terrible when you think I’ve lived here all my life!!) I absolutely fell in love with the city! So on our way back from Paris, we decided to stay for 2 nights!

Whilst looking for a hotel I kept getting the same old “ 2 rooms for a family of 4” this infuriates me as what family wants 2 rooms plus twice the cost?! Not many! I then came across the stunning 5-star 100 Queens Gate Hotel in South Kensington and their fantastic “Little Explorers After Bedtime Package”.

Doesn’t it just make the world of difference when a hotel thinks about the child’s experience too? So, before I delve into all the fabulous details of the little Explorers package let me tell you a bit about the hotel first.

First Impressions

We arrived at 100 Queens gate later than we planned as we were evacuated from the train terminal in Paris on our return journey home, an absolute nightmare!

Anyway that’s a story for another day, we got to London St Pancreas around 8 pm at night and got the underground to Kensington (well Gloucester Road station as South Kensington was closed)

It then took us 8 minutes to reach the hotel so overall it was nice and easy.

We walked into the warm cozy reception area and were greeted by staff straight away.

We instantly loved the style of the hotel! I’m funny like that I know straight away if I’m going to like a hotel or not and I knew with this one I was going to love it!

We were shown to the lifts where you have to scan your room card to gain access so great security and went up to the 2nd floor where our room awaited.

The Little Explorers After Hours Package

Before I talk about our rooms I want to tell you all about the Little Explorers package. 100 Queens Gate have gone out of their way to make our little ones feel welcome and that was apparent from the moment we stepped foot into the hotel.

The package is designed for kids, to make the hotel experience as amazing as it can be for kids (my youngest cried the other day asking to go back so that says what a great time he had)

The package includes:

  • Two-Bedroom interconnecting Family room (wait until you see it) with a free upgrade if available.
  • Early 10 am check-in with late check out until 4 pm This is so handy with kids especially after a day exploring you don’t want to be jumping up and checking out. We took our time and relaxed in the hotel.
  • Breakfast in the stunning W/A restaurant for a family of up to 4 or continental breakfast in your room. We chose the full English breakfast and it was absolutely delicious there was something for everyone.
  • £50 credit for food and drink at the hotel whilst children under 5 eat free with a paying adult. We are in the W/A restaurant and all four of us enjoyed our meals.
  • 2 vouchers per child, per stay to enjoy some sweet treats (wait until you see what we had) choose from ice cream sundaes, warm popcorn, or hot chocolate and marshmallows.
  • A backpack per child filled with wonderful goodies including toys from the National History Museum collection, water bottles from the hotel plus the cutest little teddy bears.
  • Children’s room amenities include mini robes, slippers, and toiletries. My boys loved snuggling up in their dressing gowns watching a movie!
  • A highlight of the boy’s trip- Bath Bombs!! They changed colour and had a mini toy inside!
  • A Tonie Box that tells children bedtime stories! My boys were fascinated by this!

A tonne of amazing stuff bundled in there, am I right? It’s these touches that make traveling with kids so fun, seeing their little faces and their excitement, they absolutely loved it.

Our Room

As mentioned above we had the two-bedroom interconnecting room so the boys had one room and we had the other but we were able to leave the door open so we could keep an eye on them.

When we walked in the boys were both so excited to see the goodies layered out on the bed for them. Riley instantly picked up the teddy and gave him a cuddle whilst Brody was interested in the pocket microscope from the National History Museum.

There are two main doors to the rooms like a normal room really but with a door in between the two bedrooms. The master bedroom had a cosy fireplace and huge king-size bed, I’d love to say this was my husband and I’s room but Riley decided he wanted this room with Mummy! Typical!

The rooms have some lovely touches such as a globe, vintage telephone, and a Nespresso machine. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath and the other with a shower!

Food and Drink

With the little Explorers, package breakfast is included at the W/V restaurant. There is a fantastic selection of fresh baked goods, fruit, cheeses meats along with cereals, and a full English breakfast.

There was an assortment of mills including almond and soy which meaner I could enjoy my breakfast being dairy intolerant! The staff in the restaurants are so friendly and always went out of their way to speak to my boys. Every morning they’d ask about our dogs as our youngest was missing them and would tell them all about them.

We also ate at W/V in the evening and were presented with an excellent selection of food for the children’s menu for the boys. They both opted for chicken mash and the most delicious tasting gravy I’ve ever had!

I had the corn-fed chicken with asparagus, tomato confit and mashed potatoes! It was unreal! Chicken and mash is my favourite meal so when I saw it on the menu I was a very happy girl and it didn’t disappoint!

My husband had the Beef Fillet with Parmesan Reggiano mouse, braised shallots, and a red wine jus. He said it was the best meal he had had in a long time! Highly recommend the food at 100 Queens Gate.

Our experience of the Little Explorers package

The beauty of the little Explorers “after bedtime” package is after a day of exploring the boys were treated to popcorn and ice cream in bed! We arrived back, ran a hot bath, and used our bath bombs included in the package!

The boys loved watching the bath change colour and were nice and relaxed ready for movie night! We connected our device up to chrome cast and streamed Netflix so the boys could watch a movie. The lovely staff got us some popcorn with some melted chocolate and marshmallows!

We simply presented our voucher (the boys get 2 vouchers each which give them a choice of hot chocolate, popcorn, or ice cream sundaes) we have movie nights at home so they were so excited for a movie night at a hotel. We all snuggled up and it really was the perfect end to a day exploring London.

With the little Explorers package, you get late checkout at 4 pm so we were able to relax in the morning with no rushing to check out.

Location

100 Queens Gate hotel was once an 1870s Victorian townhouse belonging to Aristocratic William Alexander. The hotel is part of Hilton’s Curio Collection and is located in the affluent borough of South Kensington, it’s definitely one of my favourite areas to stay whilst visiting London. The streets look like something straight out of a movie set!

Only a short walk from some of the most popular museums including the National History Museum, Science and V & A museum not to mention Hyde Park, and Princess Diana Memorial playground.

There’s certainly plenty to keep the kids occupied. The hotel is also in a great spot for jumping on the tube and visiting different areas of London. We found it very easy with the kids and got to see all the fabulous landmarks of London.

There are also plenty of shops and restaurants to dine in (not that you’ll need to as the food is delicious at 100 Queens Gate).

Overall Experience

We honestly had the best stay at 100 Queens Gate hotel. They really cater to children and it’s what I loved the most. The interconnecting rooms are perfect for families and the little Explorers package really made our stay extra special.

The rooms were absolutely spotless and so cozy. It’s the perfect hotel to just relax in but if you’re seeing the sights of London it’s also a great location for seeing the sights and jumping in the underground.

There is no need to leave the hotel for dinner as the food at the hotel is some of the nicest food we have had in London.
